congratulations on getting a trial shift!
We know you may have some questions about the shift and you might be feeling a little anxious. But no need to worry. The trial shift is designed as a way to let us get to know each other a bit better: you'll get a glimpse of what it's like to work here on a daily basis and we'll get a chance to see a few of the things we discussed in your interview in action. The first thing to remember is that you're not expected to be a rockstar: you're going to make a few mistakes and that's perfectly okay. A big thing we'll be looking for is how you respond to those mistakes in correcting them.
For barista trial shifts, you will generally be packing doughnuts for the majority of your shift as well as restocking the case when things run low, in addition to some light cleaning and restocking tasks as needed. We'll be looking at your customer service skills in interacting with customers (don't worry, if there's something you don't know, a supervisor or manager will be close by), basic sanitary practices, ability to retain information, willingness to learn, attention to detail, as well as your ability to clearly communicate.
For baker trial shifts, the day is more varied depending on various production needs, but in general, you will be doing light prep tasks such as filling cake molds, chopping various ingredients, etc. We'll be looking at your dexterity in the kitchen and ability to orient yourself to the various stations, basic sanitary practices, ability to read recipes, ability to retain information, willingness to learn, attention to detail, as well as your ability to clearly communicate.
A big help for alot of people in the past has been to take a look around our online menu before they come in to get a bit more familiar with what we have in the case. Remember to be dressed appropriately: closed-toe shoes, hair restraint (cap, beanie, scarf, hair net, headband/ponytail), and long pants if you're primarily working in the kitchen.
Above all, we hope you'll have fun and let your personality shine. We love working here and hope you will too. See you at the shop soon!
